This October, Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) took part in the global #ERASMUSDAYS celebration with a vibrant week-long series of events organized by the International Coordination Office. From October 14th to 18th, the university hosted a range of activities aimed at helping students and faculty navigate the Erasmus process, while fostering networking and a sense of community.

As part of the international #ERASMUSDAYS initiative, METU’s celebration spanned its campuses, with dedicated information days at Infopark, Rózsa Street, and Nagy Lajos. At each campus, the international team was available to answer questions and guide attendees through the sometimes-overwhelming administrative aspects of the Erasmus program.

The week’s main event took place on Tuesday at the Nagy Lajos campus. The day began with an informal discussion for METU professors, offering a platform to exchange experiences and address concerns regarding their own Erasmus travel options and student mobility issues. This open forum encouraged collaboration and shared insights among the academic staff.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to students, with a general information session followed by an OLA (Online Learning Agreement) workshop. These sessions provided a comprehensive overview of the Erasmus process, with a particular focus on simplifying the Learning Agreement, often regarded as one of the more challenging parts of the program’s administration.

The day concluded with a lively quiz night, complete with fresh lemonade, popcorn, and snacks. Students from METU and Erasmus participants from around the world—hailing from countries like Japan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia—formed mixed teams to test their knowledge of Erasmus, Europe, Hungary, and Budapest. Mentors from the international team hosted the quiz, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere, while helping students build cross-cultural friendships.

This colorful series of events was a fitting tribute to the Erasmus program, which has been facilitating international exchanges since 1987. As part of the global #ERASMUSDAYS celebration, METU’s activities perfectly embodied the spirit of the Erasmus program—combining essential information with cultural exploration, networking, and fun. The event also highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation between students, faculty, and the international office to ensure many more successful Erasmus semesters in the future.
