Please note: The METU tuition fee must still be paid. The Erasmus+ scholarship only contributes to your expenses but may not cover all costs. Before applying, make sure to assess your financial situation carefully!
You can submit your application by filling out the CooSpace questionnaire via the following link: https://coospace.metropolitan.hu/CooSpace/Scene-102408/Survey-787634.
The following documents must be uploaded:
- Proof of language proficiency required by the host institution, which can be verified with a state-recognized language exam certificate, a certification from the Institute of Foreign Languages, or a copy of an advanced-level language exam from your high school diploma. The required language proficiency level can be found in the downloadable partner Excel table or on the universities’ websites.
- Academic records from previous semesters, saved from Neptun (a screenshot of your grade point averages) or BA diploma if you are in your first semester of a master’s program. Please ensure that your Neptun code is clearly visible on the submitted document!
- A 300-500 word motivation letter in English, applicable to all three selected universities. In the letter, discuss what you want to study, at which universities, why you chose them, and what you expect from the mobility program. This should focus on academic aspects rather than personal ones. For example, explain how the international experience will connect to your studies at home and your future career plans.
- Art students must also attach a portfolio showcasing their work.
- For final-year art students planning to go abroad, approval from both their program director and thesis supervisor must be uploaded. – IMPORTANT: Please note that if you spend your last semester abroad, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to graduate in that semester! Studying abroad in the final semester is not recommended.
- Optional: Proof of scientific achievements or social activities, such as participation in TDK, OTDK, ESN, international student competitions, exhibitions, volunteer work at METU, or other professional recognitions. These will be considered in the evaluation process.
- You can select up to three institutions in your application. It is advisable to use all three choices, as ranking may affect placement. If your first-choice institution has no available spots, you will automatically be considered for your second choice, and if that is also full, your third choice will be considered.
- For non-Hungarian citizens: A valid residence permit, registration certificate, or a copy of the document proving refugee status must be uploaded.
- For applicants to North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, or Switzerland: The "Consent for Data Transfer to a Third Country" document, which can be downloaded from CooSpace, must be submitted.
Applications that meet the formal requirements and are submitted by the deadline will be evaluated and approved by the METU International Committee. The evaluation is recorded on an assessment sheet, with a total of 50 points available.

Students who are selected through the METU application process will be nominated to the host university. However, they must submit a separate application based on the host institution’s requirements. The host university has the right to reject a nominated student’s application based on its own selection criteria, which METU cannot influence or provide information about.
- This Erasmus+ program allows you to apply only to European partner universities.
- You can apply for one semester—either autumn or spring. If funding is available, you may extend your stay from autumn to spring, but not from spring to the following autumn.
- You will typically not join your own academic year at the host university but will choose from a separate "Erasmus course" list. These courses do not have to match the METU curriculum exactly. Always check the partner university's website for available courses.
- Consider your academic progress! Consult the Student Information Center for planning your studies and graduation deadlines. Discuss your options with your program or department head. You must get approval from your institute/department head for the foreign courses you intend to include in your Learning Agreement (OLA).
- The most popular (Mediterranean) cities often receive a high number of applications. To maximize your chances, apply to a variety of universities! We have excellent partner universities in smaller cities and beyond Western Europe.
- The scholarship is not meant to fully cover your expenses abroad. Research the cost of living in your host country and any additional funding opportunities. You may work abroad in accordance with local regulations.
- Housing can be challenging in big cities—consider checking dormitory options and the general housing situation in your target cities as early as possible.
- In Southern European universities, local language skills may be essential. Reach out to Erasmus alumni for their experiences regarding this.
- You can only travel as an active student, so you must not complete all your coursework before leaving. The Student Information Center can provide details on your curriculum.
- If you go abroad during your final semester, you must complete your mobility and have your completed courses recognized before the graduation deadline. Due to strict deadlines and differing academic calendars at partner universities, this is generally not ideal. Administrative delays could prevent you from graduating that semester. Check the host university’s website or contact them for their academic calendar.
- For art students, due to practical requirements, going abroad in the final semester is particularly discouraged if they plan to take their final exam and obtain their diploma that semester.
- At the host university, you must complete at least 20 credits, and at least 10 credits must be recognized at METU as mandatory or elective courses. If this exceeds your METU credit limit, you will not need to pay extra.
- Self-funded students must continue paying tuition at METU during their mobility to maintain active student status, but this qualifies them for additional funding. Details can be found under "additional funding opportunities."
- Even if you are not a full-time student at METU, you will be considered one at your host university.
- Language proficiency must be certified by METU’s Foreign Language Institute during the Erasmus application process. However, the partner university may require an official language exam for the final application. Always check the partner’s website for their requirements.
- If you decide not to accept the scholarship, notify us as soon as possible at erasmus@metropolitan.hu.
- If you are selected, we will nominate you to the approved institution. However, your final scholarship status depends on the host university’s confirmation.
- You must communicate with the host university and handle all required paperwork. Meeting deadlines and submitting necessary documents is your responsibility.
- The Erasmus program promotes independence. We will assist you if needed, but you must solve problems on your own.
- Do not postpone gathering the necessary documents for the contract.
- We cannot sign the funding agreement if your Learning Agreement is incomplete.
- The courses you plan to take at the host university must be approved by your institute/department head.
- A bank account confirmation required for the contract can be obtained from your bank or as a screenshot from online banking.
- Pay close attention to deadlines and required tasks before, during, and after your mobility. Failure to complete tasks or meet deadlines may result in loss of eligibility.
- Mobility extensions are only possible from the autumn semester to the spring semester.
- Students must first check with their host university if an extension is possible.
- To request an extension, students must apply by email at least one month before their current mobility period ends. The request must include the official extension form (found on Coospace), signed by both the student and the host institution, along with a motivation letter and a recommendation letter.
- METU will decide on extension approvals based on submitted documents and available project funding at the end of the current application period.
- Active student status throughout the entire mobility period.
- An Online Learning Agreement (OLA) signed by all three parties.
- A valid European Health Insurance Card. For non-Hungarian citizens, valid health insurance from an independent insurer.
- If required by the host country, a valid student visa.
- Completion of the Online Language Assessment (OLS).
- Completed and signed Step-by-Step Guide.
- Bank details for the scholarship transfer.
- A Letter of Acceptance from the host institution.
The validity of personal documents, as well as any required certifications/permits/licenses for mobility, is the responsibility of the student.
All listed documents must be submitted in full for the contract signing. You can only travel once the contract has been signed by all parties involved. The contract must be signed in person. Travel is only possible if the prevailing health situation permits it. For additional information on the health situation, please refer to the TKA website.
Travel is only permitted with a signed contract from all parties. Starting the mobility without a Grant Agreement is prohibited!
Conditions for closing the mobility:
The student has no outstanding tuition or other financial obligations to METU.
Documents required for mobility closure, to be submitted within 30 days of receiving the Certificate of Study Period:
- Certificate of Study Period (for physical mobility lasting at least 60 days), issued by the host university, specifying the exact start and end dates of the mobility.

- The final version of the Learning Agreement, signed by all parties.
- Completion of the OLS (Online Language Assessment).
- Completion of the EU Survey.
- A written report (1-2 pages, at least 500 words).
- Successful completion of at least 20 credits at the host university and transfer of at least 10 credits to METU.
