CEEPUS mobility
CEEPUS student mobility
1. What is CEEPUS?
- CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) is a scholarship program that gives you the opportunity to study at universities or colleges in other Central European countries — while earning credits that can be transferred to your home institution.
- Since the program’s launch in 1993, more than a quarter of a million applicants — including thousands of Hungarian students — have benefited from the CEEPUS scholarship, gaining valuable knowledge and experience at foreign higher education institutions.
- The official CEEPUS member countries are: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
2. You are eligible to participate in the program if...
- You are enrolled in a full-degree program at a higher education institution in one of the participating countries
- You have completed at least two semesters before the start of your mobility period;
- Both your home and host institution coordinators support your mobility (which means you must contact them before submitting/uploading your application).
3. What can you apply for?
- Semester studies (3–5 months);
- Thesis or dissertation research – in addition to collecting materials, you will also have the opportunity to receive guidance and academic support from a lecturer at the host institution (1–2 months).
4. Application within the CEEPUS Network
METU is currently a member of one international network — Active Methods in Teaching and Learning Mathematics, Informatics and their Applications — through which students can apply for exchange opportunities.
In addition, you can also apply as a so-called freemover to any higher education institution in the participating CEEPUS countries.
5. Application outside the Network — as a Freemover
- You can join the program as a freemover if there are still available mobility months in the host country’s quota.
- Freemover applications for the spring semester can be submitted to any CEEPUS country.
- However, for the autumn semester, applications are accepted only to specific countries, which will be announced separately on our website at the beginning of summer.
- In the case of freemover applications, only the National CEEPUS Office in your home country (in Hungary, within the Tempus Public Foundation) will review and approve your application.
6. Application Deadline:
Current deadline: November 1, 2025 (for the spring semester)
Applications must be submitted exclusively online at www.ceepus.info.
The scholarship award will be approved by the National CEEPUS Office of the host country, and you will need to confirm acceptance online.
Further instructions will be provided by the host country’s National CEEPUS Office after approval.

CEEPUS Staff Mobility
1. What is CEEPUS?
- CEEPUS (Central European Exchange Program for University Studies) is a network that connects higher education institutions through international partnerships at faculty or departmental level, rather than at the institutional level. Faculties or departments establish network collaborations focused on a specific academic field or interdisciplinary area, with allocated mobility slots for the given academic year. These mobility slots are then announced to the teaching staff within the participating faculty or department.
- The official CEEPUS member countries are: Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia.
- METU aims to actively participate in the program, which requires the cooperation of faculty members. Anyone interested in joining an existing network or establishing a new one is invited to contact Fatima Weininger-Hollósi (erasmus@metropolitan.hu), at the International Coordination Office.
2. Purpose of Staff Mobility
- During the mobility, a minimum of 6 teaching hours over 5 working days is mandatory (this is technically considered 1 month of mobility in the CEEPUS application system).
- The mobility may include research or conference participation, but these cannot be the sole purpose of the visit.
3. Eligible Period and Scholarship Requirements
- The staff mobility period must be at least 5 working days (technically 1 month).
Eligibility criteria for the scholarship:
- Full-time university or college teaching position;
- Delivery of at least 6 teaching hours over a minimum of 5 working days, with the corresponding teaching plan included in the application;
- Support from the institutional coordinator or network/partner coordinator in case of network mobility;
- No other scholarship funding during the mobility period (to avoid double funding);
- Citizenship of a CEEPUS member country;
- Applicants cannot travel to a country of their own citizenship with CEEPUS funding.
*If the applicant is not a citizen of a CEEPUS country but is a full-time faculty member at an accredited higher education institution in a CEEPUS country, they are eligible to participate under the same conditions. In this case, an “Equal Status” document must be uploaded with the application to verify that the applicant is a full-time faculty member at the home institution (e.g., first page of the employment contract).
4. Staff Mobility Application Deadline
- November 1, 2025 (for the spring semester)
5. Scholarship Amount
The scholarship is provided by the host country to the successful applicant, and the amount varies by country. Current amounts can be found on the Central CEEPUS Office website (www.ceepus.info) by clicking on the links to the respective national CEEPUS offices.
6. Application Procedure for Awarded Institutional or Freemover Applications
- Applications must be submitted exclusively online via the Central CEEPUS Office website (www.ceepus.info).
- For successful applications, the applicant must confirm acceptance of the scholarship online; the scholarship is payable only after this confirmation (status: accepted by applicant).
- Freemover applications are sent only to the national offices of the sending and receiving countries.
7. Application Results
- In the CEEPUS program, the final decision on scholarships is made by the host country’s national office. Applicants can track the status of their application via the online submission platform.
- Applicants will receive a system notification to the email provided during registration, indicating either that the scholarship has been awarded by the host NCO (status: awarded by host NCO) or that the application has been rejected by the host NCO (status: rejected by host NCO).
8. Reporting Obligations
- Complete the Online Mobility Report;
- Obtain a Letter of Confirmation from the host institution.
